What do you do, dear pastor, when you encounter a counseling situation that has you stumped or is difficult to navigate? Where do you turn to for practical, biblical advice?
My guest today has encountered this question many times, which is why he founded the Biblical Counselors Society. This is a group of fellow pastors, church leaders, and biblical counselors who can offer advice and resources for your most challenging counseling cases.
Nick Sevier is the Founder and Director of the Biblical Counselors Society. He is also an ACBC and International Association of Biblical Counselors (IABC) Certified Biblical Counselor.
We recorded this episode from Faith Church in Lafayette, Indiana at the Biblical Counseling Conference. In this episode, we’ll share the value of having a community of like-minded counselors, the mission of the Biblical Counselors Society, why participation is the key to this society’s success, and much more.

Key Takeaways
- There is value in having a community to turn to for assistance. It’s valuable to have a community made up of trustworthy, vetted, and like-minded biblical counselors. You can walk away with the assurance that they ascribe to some of the same resources and principles that you believe in.
- Most biblical counselors are isolated. While you likely still maintain a connection with some of the counselors who graduated at the same time you did, a community of biblical counselors is scarce. It is even more of a rarity to find those who align with your certification or who can offer practical insight.
- We are called to refine one another. “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.” (Proverbs 27:17 ESV) In the same way, we become better biblical counselors by being in community with other biblical counselors. This is how we become competent and confident to do the work of SoulCare with excellence.
