by | Sep 10, 2024

As we think about creating a culture of SoulCare in your church, we recognize that it’s often church leaders whose souls need cared for. Our latest episode of the podcast is all about how to help you, the pastors and leaders of the church.

You may be feeling immense pressure over ministering to your flock, feeling lonely and isolated, or discouraged about the effect your role is having on your family. This episode is for you!

To help me cover this topic is a man that you’ve heard me mention on this podcast many times before, Dr. Garrett Higbee. Garrett Higbee is an author, speaker, Director of Lead Healthy Retreats, Founder and President of Twelve Stones Ministries, and most recently the founder of Soul Care Consulting.

In this episode, you’ll learn about how to recognize common struggles pastors and leaders often have, find encouragement and guidance for the journey, and much more.

Key Takeaways

  1. Recognize the signs you are in survival mode. This can happen when you are no longer working out of a love for Christ and what He has called you to do. You may even feel burnt out or robotic in your duties as a pastor. It’s important to ask trusted individuals around you, as you may be too stressed or tired to even recognize this is the case.
  2. Establish healthy rhythms. The key to the long-term success of pastors, their wives, and other church leaders is to establish healthy rhythms. This is more than just a simple habit. These are non-negotiable patterns of living that are life-giving. For many, this includes taking daily prayer walks or spending 15 minutes on a devotional. These rhythms may also pertain to emotional, physical, and relational health habits.
  3. Ask good questions for your soul. It is so very important to spend regular time with the Lord for self-reflecting. This is how we avoid falling into those patterns of burnout, stress, and unhealth on a regular basis. Ask God to reveal the areas of your soul that need tending to and then do it.
